Karen Curran is a professional artist who lives and works in the Morayshire village of Fochabers, situated within the highlands of Scotland.
Portraiture has always been an important part of her work, through both painting and photography.
In her work as an iconographer, her interest in portraiture has been consistently practiced, by using the tentative techniques involved in iconography. Similarly to her icons, her portraits are painted onto gessoed, wooden panels, giving the completed piece a rustic, yet contemporary finish.
Over the years, the constant muses within her work, has been that of her own children and their cousins, whose development has been continually captured, expressing their love for animals, costume and most of all, being in each others company.
